About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated English as a Second Language (ESL) instructor to join our team at Lowell Community Charter Public School. As an ESL teacher, you will play a vital role in supporting students from diverse backgrounds in achieving academic success.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will provide high-quality instruction in English language development, including grammar, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and oral communication skills. You will work collaboratively with regular education teachers to develop and implement effective teaching strategies that cater to the needs of English Language Learners (ELLs). Your responsibilities will include creating engaging lesson plans, administering assessments, and maintaining accurate records of student progress.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement comprehensive ESL curricula that align with Massachusetts state standards and the WIDA frameworks
  • Provide targeted support to ELL students through individualized instruction and small group work
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to ensure seamless integration of ESL instruction into mainstream classes
  • Design and implement assessment tools to measure student progress and inform instruction
  • Maintain open lines of communication with parents and guardians regarding student progress and goals
  • Participate in school-wide professional development opportunities to enhance instructional practices and stay updated on best practices in ESL education

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you must possess:

A bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institutionA valid MA teaching certificate in ESL/ELL, preferably with a specialization in K-8 educationAt least 2 years of full-time teaching experience in an urban school settingSEI endorsement and technology proficiency in Microsoft Office applicationsBilingual or multilingual capabilities, with a focus on Spanish, Khmer, or Portuguese languages
