POSITION OVERVIEW
The Lead Engineer in Additive Manufacturing is tasked with advancing the investigation, development, and implementation of additive manufacturing techniques. Collaborating closely with the principal additive engineer, program management, and quality engineering teams, this role serves as a pivotal technical resource for 3D printing and its associated processes. The Lead Engineer will assess intricate engineering challenges by providing insights and recommendations on all technical facets of projects and processes. Additionally, this position will offer mentorship to junior engineers and technicians involved in shared projects, and will play a crucial role in the strategic planning and execution of business initiatives related to additive manufacturing.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop and oversee new manufacturing methodologies as required, offering expertise on Bills of Materials and process workflows to support manufacturing operations.
  • Identify and resolve issues leading to rejected components and manufacturing challenges through a strong understanding of GD&T and precision measurement tools.
  • Engage in Design for Manufacturing (DFM) assessments with internal teams, analyzing drawings, 3D models, and specifications to enhance manufacturability.
  • Generate, request, and/or revise various documentation including customer-specific requirements, non-disclosure agreements, process routings, and Bills of Materials.
  • Assist in the design and management of fixtures utilized in various processes, ensuring their effective implementation on the production floor.
  • Participate in and occasionally lead problem-solving initiatives employing lean manufacturing principles.
  • Contribute to the creation of programs (such as Laser Marking programs), 3D models, associated fixtures, drawings, templates, and overlays.
  • Receive training and development across various engineering disciplines.
  • Uphold a safe and healthy work environment by adhering to company standards and protocols.
  • Collaborate with Operations Analysts to ensure data availability, monitoring, and reporting are conducted consistently. Support the implementation of management systems at the site level.
  • Contribute to the establishment of processes that meet site annual and strategic objectives, including OEE and VAPD performance, productivity, capacity planning, and capital investment.
  • Assist in the implementation of a robust management operating system that promptly identifies necessary adjustments for the cross-functional team, ensuring alignment with site strategic and operational goals.
  • Engage in training initiatives provided to the site team in support of site objectives and program management milestones. Occasionally author work instructions for new processes.
  • Support the definition of One Orchid processes as outlined by the Director of Operations Excellence Transformation, implementing best practices as they are established.
  • Work alongside the Lead Change Agent to ensure clear communication of site transformation program goals and objectives.
  • Provide support to team members to ensure they possess the necessary knowledge and skills for their roles.
  • Ensure that key program implementation milestones are clearly understood and communicated.
  • Participate in the planning of objectives, evaluating complex and advanced engineering tasks.
  • Plan, conduct, and coordinate engineering assignments as directed by the Engineering Manager or Director.
  • Investigate and provide guidance on unusual and challenging engineering problems.
  • Mentor shop personnel on enhancements to manufacturing techniques, products, and new production equipment.
  • Assist in and occasionally develop programs (such as Laser Marking programs, CNC programs), 3D models, associated fixtures, drawings, and templates.
  • Contribute to the creation of Standard Work Instructions for various operations and collaborate with Quality Control Inspectors as needed.
  • Engage with customers to communicate critical details regarding new product launches.
  • May provide periodic technical guidance to less experienced professionals or technicians assigned to collaborative projects.
  • Perform and assist in validations and revalidations as necessary, creating protocols as required.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor of Science (B.S) in Engineering (Required)
  • Master's Degree in Engineering (Preferred)
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • 5+ Years of Engineering Experience (Required)
  • 7+ Years of Engineering Experience (Preferred)
  • 2+ Years of Experience in a Manufacturing Environment (Preferred)
  • Experience Operating CNC Equipment/Machining (Preferred)
  • Lean Manufacturing Experience (Preferred)
  • Familiarity with integrated business planning, quality system deployment, and lean manufacturing in an industrial context (Preferred)
