About the Role

Burns & McDonnell, a leading engineering and environmental firm, is seeking a Staff Environmental Planner to support business development in the Texas region. This role will focus on transmission line routing studies, environmental surveys, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) analysis, and land use planning/permitting services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Transmission Line Routing Studies: Prepare routing studies and evaluations for Certificate of Convenience and Necessity (CCN) applications, ensuring compliance with Texas Public Utilities Commission (PUC) regulations.
  • Environmental Surveys and NEPA Analysis: Conduct environmental studies and impact analyses to support project development, including high-voltage transmission lines, renewables, and oil and gas projects.
  • Land Use Planning and Permitting: Prepare and submit land use permits, interact with county and local staff, and develop public outreach materials for open houses and community engagement.
  • Technical Report Writing: Develop and author technical reports, regulatory permitting documents, and NEPA compliance documents.
  • Client Relationship Development: Foster and maintain relationships with clients, resource agencies, and environmental and technical staff to ensure successful project delivery.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Science, Planning, Natural Resource Management, or a related field.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in environmental consulting, with a focus on transmission line routing studies and NEPA analysis.
  • Experience with Texas regulatory agencies and local knowledge of the region is preferred.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects with tight deadlines.
