Fitter Welder Apprentice Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Fitter Welder Apprentice to join our team at Johnson Controls. As a Fitter Welder Apprentice, you will be responsible for the local delivery and execution of fit up, fabrication, and core welding to vendors and managers in accordance with Johnson Controls principles, corporate policies, and procedures, and plant operations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Apply minimum of 6 months of MIG welding experience into product.
  • Operate Miller Aluma Pro Mig gun and successfully apply fit up, fabricate, and weld discipline into standard models.
  • Operate manual and semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments using processes such as GMAW and Plasma Cutter.
  • Maintain safe work practices and conduct technical inspections.
  • Prepare input for various management and log reports.
  • Read and review blueprints and specifications; ensure drawings and specifications will function as designed in environment intended for use.
  • Ensure accuracy and completion of assigned tasks and projects.
  • Keep detailed and accurate reports and documentation.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of changes in technology, compliance, and repair/rework techniques.
  • Complete motor coupling installations.
  • Participate in training program as trainee/trainer as required.
  • Practice and promote 5S throughout facility.
  • Participate in kaizen events.
Requirements:
  • Minimum of 6 months of MIG Alloy and Steel welding experience.
  • Follow Operation Description Sheet (ODS) and Training Documents.
  • High School Diploma, GED or certifications.
  • Follow All Safety Policies and Protocols.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Welding technical school certification.
  • GMAW experience.
  • Tig welding experience.
  • (1+) years' experience as a welder.
  • Experience with routine maintenance operations.
  • Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in diverse working environments.
  • Able to work well under pressure.
  • Able to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally always.
