Job Description

Strategic Resources, Inc. (SRI) is a leading provider of healthcare services, seeking a highly skilled Pharmacist to join our team. As a Pharmacist at SRI, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality pharmacy services to our clients.

Responsibilities
  • Manage all pharmaceutical activities, including purchasing, inventory control, and record-keeping of controlled substances.
  • Ensure compliance with pharmacy policies and procedures, as stated in the ICE Health Service Corps (IHSC) Pharmaceutical Services Directive and Guide.
  • Provide direct care to patients within the scope of practice and perform functions in accordance with current accepted practice, licensure, certification, and privileges.
  • Fill prescriptions by obtaining the correct drug stock, counting the correct amount of medication, and affixing the prescription label and auxiliary labels.
  • Counsel patients on the appropriate use of medication, utilizing patient-friendly language and medication information handouts.
  • Screen all prescriptions upon receipt, checking availability of drug and dosage prescribed.
  • Discuss therapeutic options with providers, suggesting formulary-listed drugs where possible.
  • Answer routine inquiries from doctors, nurses, and other staff on availability of specific items, drug reactions, and interactions.
  • Packages bulk drugs into specific quantities and various-sized containers.
  • Operate tablet and capsule counting machines and labeling machines for repackaging drugs.
  • Record all prepacking information, including lot number, expiration date, manufacturer, current date, and initials.
  • Fill all requisitioned items from other areas of the clinic.
  • Prepare bulk compounds and packages a variety of simple solutions and products.
  • Place orders for supplies from appropriate sources and track supply usage to minimize out-of-stock items or excess inventories.
  • Assist the nursing department in locating sources for hard-to-find items and place orders for nursing supplies.
  • Research supply vendors to find the most economical sources for each item.
  • Receive pharmaceutical supplies and check receipts against requisitions.
  • Inspect stock to determine frequency of re-ordering drug items, maintenance of current pricing, and proper stock rotation.
  • Withdraw outdated drugs, determine proper disposition, and prepare necessary paperwork.
  • Responsible for general orderliness, cleanliness, and maintenance of pharmacy equipment.
  • Participate in monthly and annual inventory of pharmacy services.
  • Check the medicine cabinet and all areas of the clinic where night pharmacy service is available.
  • Responsible for refilling any missing pharmacy drug or supply item used during the night.
  • Inspect and log the temperature of all clinic areas where pharmaceuticals are stored.
  • On a monthly basis, gather all pharmacy statistical information required to collaborate a complete monthly report and route that report through the HSA and pharmacy leadership.
  • Inventories all controlled substances and inspects all clinic areas where pharmaceuticals are stored monthly.
  • Responsible for supervising work performed by Pharmacy Technician(s).
  • Performs record-keeping functions in accordance with program policies and position.
  • Maintains functional proficiency and ease of use utilizing electronic health records.
  • Completes and passes all discipline-specific competencies testing, initially and annually.
  • Completes all initial, annual, and ad-hoc training as required/assigned.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and confidentiality of medical records, in compliance with the Privacy Act and HIPAA regulations.
  • Adheres to and maintains awareness of IHSC Policies, Procedures, Directives, Operational Memoranda, and accreditation standards.
  • Adheres to and participates in IHSC's Safety, Prevention, Infection and Control, Quality Improvement, Patient Education, and other programs and collateral duties.
  • Attends and participates in general/medical staff meetings.
Requirements
  • S. in Pharmacy or Pharm. D. degree from a program accredited by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education.
  • Minimum of one-year experience as a licensed practicing pharmacist.
  • Permanent, full, and unrestricted pharmacist license in the state in which the duty station is located.
  • Maintains BLS for Healthcare Providers certification through the American Heart Association.

Duty Hours/On-Call Requirements

IHSC operates 24/7/365. This position is required to respond with physical presence during an emergency activation. This full-time position is required to be available telephonically during non-duty hours.

Physical Demands

The work requires some physical exertion, such as long periods of standing, walking, or jogging unaided over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces. The work may require specific, but common, physical characteristics and abilities, such as agility and dexterity, visual, and hearing capabilities.

Must be able to respond to any medical emergency in the facility, via foot, within four minutes and perform CPR/emergency care standing or kneeling.

Must have the ability to assist sick, injured, or aging detainees or staff exiting the building during an emergency.

Security Requirements

The Department of Homeland Security's Personnel Security Unit (PSU) must render a Preliminary Favorable Fitness Determination to be considered a qualified candidate.

A Complete Favorable Fitness Determination must be rendered by PSU upon completion of initial and subsequent background investigations to meet the requirements of this position.

Must be a U.S. Citizen or Legal Permanent Resident.

Must have resided in the U.S. or its territories for three (3) or more years out of the last five (5) years.
