About the Role

Capital One is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Distinguished Engineer to lead our Android platform engineering efforts. As a key member of our technical team, you will be responsible for driving innovation and excellence in our mobile app development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Articulate and evangelize a bold technical vision for the Android platform
  • Decompose complex problems into practical and operational solutions
  • Ensure the quality of technical design and implementation
  • Serve as an authoritative expert on non-functional system characteristics, such as performance, scalability, and operability
  • Continue learning and injecting advanced technical knowledge into our community
  • Handle multiple projects simultaneously, balancing time to maximize impact
  • Act as a role model and mentor within the tech community, helping to coach and strengthen the technical expertise and know-how of our engineering and product community
  • Provide thought leadership to all initiatives in the Android engineering space, ensuring that our approaches reflect industry best practices and incorporate the latest recommendations from Google and other beacons
  • Proactively identify technical challenges and work collaboratively with teams across the organization to devise innovative solutions, promoting a culture of problem-solving and creativity
  • Serve as a vocal advocate for the mobile platform within both internal and external developer communities, fostering knowledge sharing and innovation
  • Collaborate closely with leaders and teams across various disciplines (Android, iOS, APIs, Web, etc.), cultivating a culture of cross-functional collaboration and learning
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • At least 7 years of experience in mobile development for Android
  • At least 3 years of experience with Kotlin, Coroutines, Channels, Flow, Android Studio, and the Android SDK
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • 10+ years of experience in Android development
  • 8+ years of experience in reactive programming paradigms
  • 8+ years in mobile cybersecurity concepts and techniques (vulnerability detection and remediation, certificate management)
  • 8+ years experience building enterprise-grade mobile applications and frameworks
  • 5+ years experience working with large, federated monorepo codebases
  • 2+ years experience with the Apple / iOS ecosystem and related technologies
  • 2+ years experience with web services and cloud architecture
  • 10+ years of professional experience in the full lifecycle of system development, from conception through architecture, implementation, testing, deployment, and production support
