Job Overview

Are you driven by empathy, teamwork, and a commitment to advancing organ and tissue donation? Kentucky Organ Donor Affiliates (KODA) is seeking a dedicated Donor Family Coordinator / Family Support Liaison to enhance our mission.

This role involves significant regional travel and requires on-call availability.

As a Donor Family Coordinator / Family Support Liaison, you will provide crucial support and education to the next-of-kin of potential donors regarding their options for donation. You will assess family dynamics and their understanding of the patient's condition to facilitate the donation process. Your responsibilities will include:

  1. Donation Authorization: You will present donation opportunities to families and secure authorization from eligible candidates by offering education and resources. Your role will involve promoting the mission of organ and tissue donation by informing families and hospital personnel about the significance and advantages of donation, while also dispelling myths and advocating for registered organ donors.
  2. Compassionate Support: You will offer empathetic and supportive guidance to donor families throughout the donation journey. This includes addressing their concerns, providing resources, and clarifying the medical team's grave diagnosis. Cultural competence and sensitivity to diverse backgrounds are essential in this role.
  3. Collaboration: You will work closely with attending physicians, healthcare professionals, KODA donation coordinators, chaplains, and other stakeholders to ensure effective coordination and communication. Your ability to function well in interdisciplinary teams is vital for the success of organ and tissue donation initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • A college degree (Associate or Bachelor level) in social work, allied health, psychology, counseling, healthcare administration, business sales, marketing, or a related field is required. *Applicants with incomplete secondary education may be considered if they possess relevant experience and a willingness to complete their studies.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in marketing, communications, teaching, nursing, hospice, healthcare, counseling, pastoral work, or other public service-related fields is required.
  • Experience in crisis intervention and collaborative decision-making roles is relevant. Suitable backgrounds include hospice care, grief counseling, pastoral work, social work, nursing (RN, LPN, CNA), and palliative care nursing.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential, along with the ability to provide compassionate support to families.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in interdisciplinary teams and navigate complex healthcare settings.
  • A commitment to the mission of organ and tissue donation and promoting awareness of donation.
  • Willingness to work variable hours with on-call responsibilities.
