About the Role

This position is located in the Transportation Security Administration, Department of Homeland Security (DHS). As a Transportation Security Officer, you will provide security and protection of air travelers, airports, and aircraft in a courteous and professional manner. Your duties may include operating various screening equipment, performing searches and screenings, controlling terminal entry and exit points, interacting with the public, and maintaining focus and awareness in a stressful environment.

Responsibilities

Some of the key responsibilities of this role include:
  • Operating screening equipment and technology to identify dangerous objects in baggage, cargo, and on passengers
  • Performing searches and screenings, which may include physical interaction with passengers
  • Controlling terminal entry and exit points
  • Interacting with the public, providing directions, and responding to inquiries
  • Maintaining focus and awareness in a stressful environment

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to meet the following requirements:
  1. You must possess U.S. Citizenship or be a U.S. National
  2. You must have reached the minimum age (18) at the time of application
  3. You must pass a structured interview, drug screening, medical evaluation, and background investigation
  4. You must be available to work various shifts and overtime, as needed
  5. You must be proficient in English (e.g., reading, writing, speaking, comprehending)

Salary

The salary range for this position is $41,316 to $55,231 per year, or $19.8 to $26.46 per hour, including locality pay of 16.82%. This is a full-time position requiring 40 hours per week, with various shifts and overtime available.
