Field Artillery Fire Support Specialist

As a Fire Support Specialist in the Army National Guard, you will be an integral member of a distinguished artillery unit. Your primary responsibility will be to deliver critical intelligence that aids infantry and armored divisions during combat missions, while acquiring valuable skills that will enhance your civilian career prospects.
Key Responsibilities
In this role, also referred to as a Forward Observer, you will:
- Serve as the eyes and ears of the artillery unit, focusing on target identification and information transmission to artillery personnel across various levels.
- Become proficient in communication techniques, including the operation of advanced communications equipment.
- Utilize laser range finders and engage in the encoding and decoding of messages.
- Assist in the formulation and dissemination of fire support strategies.
- Determine target coordinates through both manual calculations and computer systems.

Compensation and Training
Instead of incurring costs for training, you will receive compensation while you learn. In the Army National Guard, you will gain these essential skills while earning a steady income and qualifying for educational assistance.
After completing 10 weeks of Basic Training, you will undergo six weeks of Advanced Individual Training (AIT), which combines practical and theoretical learning, covering topics such as target location computation, ammunition handling, system operations, and artillery tactics.
