Security Officer

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Security Officer to join our team at the Gemological Institute of America. As a Security Officer, you will play a critical role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for our employees, students, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities:- Maintain vigilance for unusual or suspicious individuals or situations
- Monitor and operate surveillance, access control, and intrusion detection equipment
- Respond to emergency situations and administer first aid as required
- Assist in evacuation and crowd control in the event of an emergency
- Respond to fire, safety, and security alarms following set protocols
- Act as a trusted point of contact for personnel, students, vendors, and the public
- Maintain vigil and patrol the campus while providing a visible presence
- Inform management on safety and security related matters
- Direct and/or escort visitors and vendors as needed
- Assist in special events and tours organized at/by the institute
- Log observations regarding security, safety, and maintenance related issues
- Contact/coordinate with local law enforcement agencies when necessary
- Operate emergency equipment as needed
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- One to three years related experience and/or training
- Ability to learn and adapt to new software applications
- Intermediate computer skills, including experience with current Microsoft applications
- Ability to write and type clear and concise reports
- Good comprehension ability and logical thinking
- Ability to operate security communication equipment
- Excellent judgment aptitude with a solid ability to detect imminent or looming threats
- Ability to identify and resolve conflicts in an effective manner
- Basic problem-solving skills including identifying, understanding, and resolving problems
- Ability and willingness to follow standard operating procedures
- Excellent communication skills including effective listening skills
- Polite and courteous demeanor
- Ability to adapt to rapidly evolving situations and priorities
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of information
- Ability and willingness to document process-flow diagrams and standard operating procedures
- Proficiency in MS Excel
- Knowledge and experience in root cause analysis and corrective actions planning
- Security officer experience
- Experience in CCTV, access control, intruder alarm, and fire alarm handling
- Tasks are performed both in a professional office environment and outdoors
- Includes standing, walking, sitting, lifting, and driving a company vehicle
