Essential Job Duties:

The Biological Sciences department is seeking a Research Scholar specializing in cell and molecular biology. This role involves managing intricate projects focused on comparative immunogenetics and immunotoxicology, utilizing both established and novel 'omics databases, as well as zebrafish and cell culture methodologies. Key responsibilities include:

  • Implementing molecular biology techniques (e.g., RT-PCR, plasmid design).
  • Overseeing zebrafish husbandry and cell culture operations.
  • Recruiting and mentoring undergraduate research assistants in data management and analysis.
  • Coordinating biological specimen storage and management.
  • Ensuring compliance with lab safety protocols and managing equipment maintenance.
  • Identifying challenges and adapting procedures as necessary.
  • Serving as a technical resource for staff and collaborators.
  • Assisting in budget preparation and monitoring expenditures.
  • Fostering a supportive and inclusive lab environment.
Other Responsibilities:

The Research Scholar will also:

  • Contribute to the formulation of research projects and hypotheses.
  • Analyze and interpret experimental data.
  • Prepare figures and text for publication and grant submissions.
  • Facilitate interdisciplinary collaborations.
  • Present research findings at academic conferences.
Minimum Education and Experience:

A Ph.D. in genetics/genomics, immunology, or toxicology (or a relevant terminal degree) is required; alternatively, a Master's degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience.

Other Required Qualifications:
  • Exceptional communication and organizational skills.
  • Strong background in molecular biology, immunology, and/or toxicology.
  • Familiarity with the daily management of a research laboratory.
  • Experience with zebrafish and/or mammalian cell culture techniques.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in genetics/genomics, immunology, or toxicology.
  • Research experience with zebrafish and mammalian cell cultures.
  • Knowledge of lab safety regulations and compliance.
  • Experience in supervising student researchers.
  • A proven track record of scientific publications.
