Position Overview:
The Pharmaceutical Compounding Technician is tasked with the preparation of customized medications in both sterile and non-sterile settings. The successful candidate will possess a comprehensive understanding of compounding methodologies and regulations, particularly within a 503A framework, and ideally have experience with 503B compounding as well.
Core Responsibilities:
Sterile Compounding Duties:
- Prepare sterile compounded medications in a controlled environment adhering to USP standards.
- Utilize proper aseptic techniques throughout all sterile compounding activities.
- Conduct environmental monitoring and implement cleaning protocols in the sterile compounding area.
Non-Sterile Compounding Duties:
- Formulate non-sterile compounded medications, such as creams, ointments, capsules, and solutions, in accordance with USP standards.
- Precisely measure and combine pharmaceutical ingredients using suitable compounding tools.
- Maintain comprehensive records of compounding procedures and batch production.
Quality Control:
- Comply with all standard operating procedures (SOPs) and regulatory guidelines.
- Conduct quality assessments on compounded medications to ensure precision and uniformity.
- Assist in managing appropriate inventory levels of compounding materials and supplies.
Regulatory Adherence:
- Ensure compliance with local and federal regulations, including FDA, DEA, and USP standards.
- Remain informed about updates in compounding regulations and best practices.
Team Collaboration:
- Collaborate closely with pharmacists to clarify prescriptions and guarantee accurate medication preparation.
- Effectively communicate with team members and healthcare professionals to promote patient safety and satisfaction.
Qualifications:
Essential:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Pharmacy Technician license in PA.
- At least 2 years of experience in both sterile and non-sterile compounding.
- Familiarity with USP , , and standards.
- Meticulous attention to detail and a strong commitment to quality.
- Outstanding communication and organizational abilities.
Desirable:
- Experience in a 503A compounding pharmacy.
- Experience with 503B compounding practices and regulations.
- Certification as a Compounded Sterile Preparation Technician (CSPT) by PTCB or equivalent.
