Job Responsibilities

The Commonwealth of Virginia is pleased to present an opportunity for a Fiscal Technician role within our esteemed organization. This position is integral to providing financial and operational support services.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintaining, calculating, researching, validating, and entering data into a financial management system for various transactions, including payroll, accounts payable, procurement, travel expenses, and other fiscal activities.
  • Interpreting relevant policies and procedures to ensure compliance.
  • Reviewing all transactions for accuracy, completeness, and proper approvals, while engaging with both internal and external stakeholders to resolve any discrepancies.
  • Preparing financial reports, interpreting system-generated data, and executing queries to extract relevant information.
  • Managing files in accordance with established guidelines, including maintenance, purging, and disposal.
  • Entering inventory data into financial systems and ensuring the accuracy of all transactions.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned to enhance the operational support function.

All employees may be required to work during emergencies, including weekends, holidays, and outside of regular business hours, with assignments varying based on organizational needs.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants should possess:

  • A foundational understanding of accounting and business principles sufficient for data monitoring and analysis.

  • Experience with data entry in automated financial systems and report preparation.
  • Proficiency in file management according to established protocols.
  • Basic mathematical skills.
  • Competence in using computers and software applications, including MS Office and financial management systems.

Additional Considerations

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Experience with GAAP, governmental accounting, internal controls, and compliance.
  • Familiarity with accounts payable and receivable processes.
  • Experience in account reconciliations and discrepancy resolution.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience demonstrating the ability to fulfill the position's responsibilities.
