Legrand North America is seeking a Mechanical Engineer specializing in Quality Assurance to become a vital part of our Electrical Wiring Systems Pass and Seymour Team.
The ideal candidate will engage in ongoing enhancement initiatives, providing support to suppliers, customers, and internal departments such as Manufacturing, Assembly, and Testing & Validation.
This role will also involve establishing and maintaining quality system metrics and tools.
The Quality Assurance Engineer will ensure that all assigned responsibilities are executed promptly, effectively, and in alignment with the established departmental and organizational policies, procedures, and objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Collect and analyze quality data, pinpoint problem areas, propose solutions, and coordinate corrective actions to manage costs and meet established quality targets for external failures, scrap, problem orders, and related performance metrics.
2. Conduct root cause analysis and implement solutions to address immediate quality concerns while overseeing the execution of long-term resolutions.
4. Maintain necessary quality records and documentation to ensure that all quality and manufacturing systems and processes comply with or exceed industry standards and/or customer specifications.
5. Design and implement process enhancements, including testing and inspection.6. Analyze engineering modifications to assess their impact on processes and tooling.
7. Develop capability studies, advanced product quality planning (APQP), process failure mode effect analysis (PFMEA), and statistical process controls (SPC).
8. Provide responses to technical inquiries from suppliers and determine the appropriate course of action.
9. Facilitate and support Internal, Customer, Supplier, and Third-Party Audits as necessary.
10. Analyze, audit, and report on quality performance and trends related to products and processes.
11. Contribute to quality requirements for Design and Manufacturing Engineering.
12. Evaluate and make decisions regarding First Articles/PPAP.
13. Create and update standard operating procedures and work instructions.
14. Exhibit decisiveness; demonstrate sound and accurate judgment; support and clarify reasoning for decisions; involve relevant stakeholders in the decision-making process; make timely decisions.
Qualifications:
Required Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
1. Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field. Relevant experience may substitute for formal education.
2. 2-5 years of related manufacturing experience, with a minimum of 2 years in a quality role.
3. Experience in problem-solving, corrective actions, and preventive measures.
4. Strong organizational and time management capabilities.
5. Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
6. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of engaging effectively across all organizational levels.
Preferred Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
1. Bachelor's degree in electrical, mechanical, quality manufacturing engineering, electro-mechanical engineering, or equivalent education.
2. ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) is preferred.
3. Experience in product risk management – DFMEA/PFMEA.
4. Familiarity with implementing and maintaining a quality management system.
5. Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
6. Skilled in creating trend charts, Pareto charts, and graphs.
Main Interfaces:
Internal – engineering, sourcing, manufacturing, customer support, and product teams.
External – component suppliers, contract manufacturers, and customers.
Travel:
Willingness to travel domestically and internationally on a limited basis.
