Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Financial Manager to join our team at the Commonwealth of Virginia. As a key member of our finance department, you will be responsible for streamlining and updating fiscal processes, financial reporting, and overall financial management practices in three basic health science departments. You will also oversee the day-to-day operations of departmental fiscal activities.

Key Responsibilities:

* Manage daily fiscal operations, including monthly reconciliation, purchasing, corpcard, and travel
* Supervise three fiscal staff members who manage daily operational tasks
* Assist in budget development and implementation, including assessing requested funding and presenting budget scenarios
* Develop unit-specific financial planning tools and business models for reporting to leadership
* Analyze financial data and develop reports for forecasting and results analysis
* Serve as primary approver for Real Source and expense transfers, and function as effort coordinator for sponsored research
* Ensure compliance with VCU fiscal policy and maintain technical knowledge of university systems and procedures

Requirements:

* Accounting experience, including analyzing labor distributions reports, managing end-of-month financial reports, and budget reconciliations
* Ability to independently problem-solve and maintain confidentiality related to sensitive data
* Experience in budget preparation, forecasting, and model building, as well as inventory control and management of surplus property
* Ability to research, compile, analyze, and evaluate large datasets for forecasting and projections
* Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of management, government, and financial officials
* Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and ability to work independently to identify and formulate alternative solutions to complex administrative and budget implementation issues

Preferred Qualifications:

* Master's degree in accounting, finance, or public administration, or equivalent combination of education and experience
* Demonstrated working knowledge of university-specific financial management systems
