About the Role

AvalonBay Communities is seeking a highly skilled Lead Maintenance Technician to join our team. As a key member of our maintenance team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety, comfort, and overall functionality of our properties.

As a Lead Maintenance Technician, you will be responsible for diagnosing and repairing problems in various areas, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry. You will also assist with creating and organizing work orders, complete assigned tasks in a timely manner, and ensure vacant apartment homes are rent-ready.

Additionally, you will train and mentor junior maintenance technicians, conduct preventative maintenance, and inspect community grounds and buildings to identify maintenance needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and repair problems in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry areas
  • Assist with creating and organizing work orders
  • Complete assigned tasks in a timely manner
  • Ensure vacant apartment homes are rent-ready
  • Train and mentor junior maintenance technicians
  • Conduct preventative maintenance
  • Inspect community grounds and buildings to identify maintenance needs
Requirements
  • 3+ years of experience in maintenance work, including knowledge of HVAC repair, plumbing, electrical, and general maintenance repair work
  • Valid driver's license
  • HVAC (CFC) certifications required or willingness to learn
  • Ability to accommodate an on-call schedule in rotation with the team
  • Ability to communicate with associates and residents to provide customer service
  • Ability to read and understand policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and ability to use properly
