Job Overview:
The primary role of this position is to ensure the upkeep of the Library's physical environment. This encompasses the management and maintenance of essential equipment required for the building's operation.

This role entails performing cleaning and maintenance tasks following established protocols, with specific guidance provided for non-routine activities.

Work will be subject to inspection during progress and upon completion. Typical working hours are from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conducts building maintenance activities and executes minor repairs on the facility, furnishings, and equipment.
  • Operates, monitors, and maintains mechanical heating and air conditioning systems, as well as safety and water system control panels, reporting any malfunctions or unusual conditions to the Director.
  • May assist with computer disconnections, relocations, and component additions as necessary.
  • Acts as the safety officer for the Library and may participate in the City's Emergency Preparedness committee.
  • Maintains an inventory of all library furnishings, machines, and custodial supplies.
  • Orders and tracks custodial supplies as needed.
  • Performs cleaning tasks including sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, and polishing floors using both hand tools and power equipment.
  • Washes walls, windows, and woodwork; cleans restrooms and replenishes supplies.
  • May operate a light vehicle to procure supplies and manage mail deliveries.
  • Installs or removes shelving, sets up tables and chairs, and organizes furniture for meetings or special events.
  • Maintains the exterior of the building by mowing grass, cultivating flower beds, collecting trash, and shoveling snow.
  • Supervises various volunteers and manages seasonal decorations.
  • Performs minor repairs on library machinery and equipment.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Two (2) years of vocational or technical training in mechanical maintenance, or equivalent experience is required. Familiarity with custodial equipment and cleaning methods is preferred. A valid driver's license is necessary. Candidates must be in good physical condition, as the role involves some heavy lifting. Effective communication skills with staff and the public are essential.
