Parks Crew Leader Job Summary

This is a responsible and technical position within the Boone County Parks Department with a wide variety of duties pertaining to the maintenance of park and park facilities within Boone County.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise the Parks Crew in the maintenance of County parks and facilities systems, including on-the-job training.
  • Coordinate and assist the Parks Superintendent and Foreman with the purchase of construction materials used by the Parks Maintenance staff, including the processing of receipts.
  • Responsible for maintaining the Park Crew daily worksheets, coordinating the completion of work orders per Department procedures.
  • Manage the work order management program as work requests and work orders are assigned to the Parks Department per Department policies.
  • Supervise the operation of various equipment and vehicles used in daily Parks operations.
  • Assist the Park Superintendent with evaluations of parks personnel.
Additional Duties
  • Assist with the Department's special events and ballfield operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Supervise Park Crews, including:
  • Assist with hiring, training, development, and work assignments.
  • Evaluate job performance.
  • Provide complaint and problem resolution.
  • Enforce policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • Education and/or Experience:
  • Graduate of a standard high school, vocational school, or the equivalency, supplemented by experience or training that provides the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform required duties in the Parks Department.
  • Experience and knowledge of the functions pertaining to Parks Crews, including general construction work and field maintenance.
  • Language Skills:
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret policies, procedures, professional publications, and governmental regulations.
  • Possess strong oral, written, and listening skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive issues.
  • Mathematical Skills:
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measurement using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute ratio and percent.
  • Reasoning Skills:
  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Interpret a variety of technical and instructional information.
  • Make decisions that serve the county's best interest and follow the missions and objectives of the Parks Department.
  • Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
  • Possession of a valid Commonwealth of Kentucky driver's license.
  • Possession of a valid Commonwealth of Kentucky Class C commercial driver's license.
  • Other Knowledge and/or Skills:
  • Basic computer skills with the ability to access programs such as Microsoft Office products.
  • Capability to provide reports and spreadsheets as needed.
  • Experience and knowledge of materials and equipment related to the Parks operations.
  • Ability to assign work, train, and supervise employees performing maintenance duties on County Park facilities.
  • Ability to work with other department, county, other agency personnel, and the general public.
  • Ability to work under limited supervision.

  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Must maintain confidentiality when required.

Salary: $28.58 but negotiable with experience.
