Located in a hybrid work environment, EIIA's team of insurance and risk management experts serves over 145 higher education institutions across 39 states, alongside operating captive insurance companies and grantor trusts.

Position Overview

The Director of Risk Management serves as the primary liaison for designated member institutions, fostering strong relationships across all campus levels. This role involves a dual focus on risk management and customer service, ensuring that members receive tailored support.

Key Responsibilities:

Risk Management Duties:

  • Design and implement risk management services tailored to each member institution, focusing on loss prevention and program enhancement based on current needs and emerging risks.
  • Provide a comprehensive range of risk management and insurance services, including situational analyses, loss cause investigations, and compliance reviews.
  • Conduct thorough risk assessments specific to higher education, utilizing data analysis to develop effective risk mitigation strategies.
  • Collaborate with institutions to identify and address significant risk management challenges through evaluations and strategic planning.
  • Advocate for members' risk management initiatives when engaging with internal departments, vendors, and external service providers.
  • Facilitate various campus visits, including orientation and risk management assessments.
  • Review contracts and agreements from a risk management perspective, advising on insurance requirements and loss prevention recommendations.
  • Oversee externally sourced loss prevention and safety service activities, ensuring quality and timely delivery to EIIA members.
  • Contribute to the development of resources for EIIA's website and member reference materials.
  • Monitor and disseminate best practices and trends in risk management and safety within the higher education sector.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This role does not involve direct supervision but requires collaboration with the Risk Management team to implement service strategies and resolve issues.

Qualifications:

To excel in this position, candidates should possess:

  • Knowledge of fundamental risk management practices and insurance operations.
  • Familiarity with property, liability, and workers' compensation claims management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications:

Professional designations such as Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) are advantageous.

Education and Experience:

A bachelor's degree or equivalent is required; an advanced degree is a plus. A minimum of five years of experience in risk management or related fields is preferred.

Travel Requirements:

This position may require travel, including weekends, to member institutions across the United States for meetings, training, and professional development.

Work Environment:

The role operates in a hybrid model, with many functions performed remotely. Occasional onsite presence may be necessary for team events.
