The ideal candidate will possess expertise that enhances the university's strengths in areas such as epidemiology, integrated pest management, chemical ecology, vector biology, genomics, and applied evolution/resistance management. Penn State boasts a robust community of faculty engaged in infectious disease dynamics and the development of innovative public health solutions through transdisciplinary approaches. Candidates who are eager to collaborate across traditional disciplines to design and implement effective vector control strategies are particularly encouraged to apply.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The selected candidate will be expected to conduct both empirical and theoretical research centered on the ecology and biology of mosquitoes, ticks, and other arthropod vectors of infectious diseases pertinent to the United States. The successful applicant is anticipated to establish a vigorous externally funded research program, engage in independent high-quality research, publish in prestigious scholarly journals, and mentor graduate students. Teaching responsibilities may include the course ENT216N "Plagues Through the Ages" and the development of both in-person and online courses related to arthropods affecting human health. Engaging a diverse population of faculty, staff, and students at various levels within the department, college, and university is a vital aspect of this academic role.

A Ph.D. in entomology, ecology, or a related field is required, with demonstrated achievements in research pertinent to arthropod vectors. Candidates must have completed all degree requirements by the time of appointment. Applications from individuals belonging to underrepresented groups are especially welcomed.

The successful candidate will collaborate with faculty members who have complementary interdisciplinary research interests and will have access to excellent core facilities.

SALARY: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, accompanied by an excellent benefits package.

Review of applications will commence upon receipt and will continue until a suitable candidate is identified.

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS: In addition to a cover letter, candidates must submit a curriculum vitae, a statement outlining their pedagogical approach to teaching, a statement of future research interests, and a list of three references. Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to fostering diversity, equity, inclusive excellence, and belonging, as well as engagement that promotes an inclusive environment within their classroom, department, and the university.
