Role Overview
As a Storage Engineer, you will contribute to ensuring that today is secure and tomorrow is more efficient. Your expertise will be vital in supporting our intelligence clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, architect, configure, deploy, upgrade, and maintain various storage and backup platforms along with their management tools.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot issues related to storage systems and associated technologies.
- Adhere to engineering and architectural standards, participating in necessary technical review meetings.
- Engage in the evaluation, deployment, management, and integration of new technologies in collaboration with other engineers and architects.
- Provide incident support and participate in an on-call rotation during off-hours and weekends.
- Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, including logical/physical diagrams and technical engineering documents.
- Demonstrate initiative and commitment to optimizing systems and processes consistently.
- Oversee the installation of new storage hardware and software according to established procedures.
- Manage updates to hardware, operating systems, and software to ensure required functionality and security.
- Monitor systems, collecting and reviewing statistics relevant to capacity, performance, and utilization.
- Stay informed about current developments in storage and backup technology to assist federal staff in evaluating future directions.
Qualifications and Skills Required
- Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Hands-on engineering experience with NetApp and other storage technologies.
- Experience with SAN, NAS, and iSCSI storage implementations.
- Proficiency in capacity planning and sizing storage and backup environments.
- Expertise in performance tuning and optimizing storage and backup systems.
- Experience with data center migrations and storage replication technologies.
- Senior-level experience in the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of large-scale systems across multiple hardware platforms.
- Strong understanding of high availability concepts and practical experience in implementing key components in storage environments.
- Solid knowledge of fundamental hardware concepts, including disk, memory, CPU, NIC, HBA, firmware, RAID, and performance concepts.
- Understanding of essential TCP/IP concepts such as TCP, UDP, ICMP, and others.
- Familiarity with security best practices and federal hardening requirements.
- CompTIA Security+ or similar certification for IAT Level II as per DoD 8570.
- Proficient written and verbal communication skills.
- Collaborative attitude and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to follow directions.
Desired Qualifications
- NetApp Certification.
- Experience with PowerShell/Python scripting.
- Experience in leveraging scripts for auditing and enforcing configuration standards.
- Familiarity with Amazon Web Services / C2S.
