Controller Job Description

Vaco Financial is seeking a skilled and experienced Controller to join a dynamic team with a reputable and stable company in Richmond, VA. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical expertise, strategic thinking, and a commitment to driving excellence in financial management.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Financial Operations Management: Oversee the day-to-day operations of the accounting department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger maintenance, and financial reporting.
  • Financial Reporting and Analysis: Lead the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness in the preparation of financial statements, reconciliations, and reports. Prepare and analyze financial statements, variance reports, and other financial data to provide insights into business performance and support strategic decision-making.
  • Internal Controls and Compliance: Develop and maintain internal controls and procedures to safeguard company assets, mitigate risks, and ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulations.
  • Leadership and Team Management: Provide leadership and mentorship to accounting staff, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including finance, operations, and executive leadership, to align financial objectives with overall business goals.
Requirements:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA certification preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting experience.
  • Skills: Strong technical expertise in accounting principles, financial reporting standards, and internal controls. Proficiency in accounting software and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and communicate insights to stakeholders.
