Job Description

MP Materials Corp. is seeking a highly skilled Senior Design Engineer to join our team in the development of a new metal, alloy, and magnet-making facility. This is a rare opportunity to have a central role in the design and development of a greenfield advanced manufacturing facility, and helping to define the future of American manufacturing.

The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and developing the physical layout and process flow of the facility, working closely with the broader process engineering, controls engineering, and manufacturing teams. They will also be responsible for delivering finished designs, detailed drawings, and engineering specifications for supplier bidding, and leading vendor compliance efforts after purchase.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in process design and automation, with experience in machine design and testing, and knowledge of statistical process control. They will also have excellent spatial visualization and reasoning skills, with a history of conceiving of successful creative designs for bespoke problems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop the physical layout and process flow of the facility
  • Work closely with the broader process engineering, controls engineering, and manufacturing teams
  • Deliver finished designs, detailed drawings, and engineering specifications for supplier bidding
  • Lead vendor compliance efforts after purchase
  • Develop and implement automation systems, detailed designs, and direct component sourcing, fabrication, and deployment of manufacturing equipment
  • Work closely with EHS to ensure that all work is done to ensure world-class health and safety, and full compliance with relevant environmental regulations

Requirements:

  • BS or MS in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, or related field
  • Profession Engineer license current and valid in Texas
  • At least 7 years process design and automation experience within a manufacturing environment
  • 5+ years equipment design and process automation experience in metals, semiconductor, or specialty chemicals industries
  • Knowledge in automation of industrial processes and materials handling
  • Experience in machine design and testing
  • Knowledge of statistical process control, and experience in designing control systems
  • Excellent spatial visualization and reasoning skills, with a history of conceiving of successful creative designs for bespoke problems
  • Broad knowledge and experience across multiple CAD tools
  • Project Management and hands-on approach to projects
  • Expert level user of Microsoft Office suite
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Sound knowledge of Process Safety
  • Good understanding of human factors in manufacturing
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple concurrent projects
  • Ability to identify and solve problems, and effectively communicate and advocate for these solutions to others (from operators to management)
