Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY: The Behavioral Support Specialist is responsible for executing specialized tasks in the creation, coordination, and oversight of comprehensive behavior support for individuals with developmental disabilities. This role emphasizes enhancing the quality of life for those served by Miami County through effective collaboration with individuals, support teams, and families. The incumbent operates with a significant degree of autonomy while receiving general guidance from the Behavior Support Coordination Manager and the Quality and Innovations Director.

As a representative of the Miami County Board of Developmental Disabilities, the employee is expected to adhere to all Board policies, uphold the dignity of all individuals served, and demonstrate sensitivity to diverse beliefs, cultures, values, and family structures.

QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must possess a valid license from the Ohio Board of Psychology, the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker and Marriage and Family Board, or a physician license from the State Medical Board of Ohio. Alternatively, a bachelor's or graduate degree from an accredited institution is required. A minimum of three (3) years of full-time or equivalent part-time experience in developing and executing behavior support and/or risk reduction strategies is essential. The ability to obtain Service & Support Administration certification from the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities within 90 days of employment is also required. A satisfactory criminal background check, Abuser Registry checks, and drug testing are mandatory. Candidates must maintain a valid State of Ohio driver's license with a clean driving record. Strong communication skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications are necessary, along with a commitment to Riverside's Code of Conduct.RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop and assess behavioral evaluations in collaboration with individuals and their support teams.
  • Formulate and execute both positive and restrictive strategies based on team input and regulatory guidelines.
  • Provide training to designated staff on the appropriate implementation of restrictive strategies prior to their application.
  • Review documentation from service providers to ensure the correct application of restrictive strategies.
  • Offer individualized support to children and adults on various topics, including grief, parenting techniques, coping mechanisms, crisis intervention, reproductive education, and social skills.
  • Work alongside team members to deliver targeted interventions, training, and guidance to families and staff in diverse settings.
  • Collaborate with team members to enhance awareness of specific training techniques and crisis prevention strategies tailored to individual needs.
  • Monitor the implementation of positive and restrictive strategies through observations and interviews with individuals and staff.
  • Provide necessary documentation for Individual Service Plans (ISPs) and participate in annual ISP meetings.

WORK SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm, with flexibility based on organizational needs.

COMPENSATION: $23.67 per hour, dependent on qualifications.
