Position Overview

Compensation: The salary range for this position is competitive and may vary based on experience and other job-related factors. Additional incentives, bonuses, and commissions may be included as part of the overall compensation package.

Role Summary:

The primary responsibility of the Vision Care Technician is to support the Optometrist in conducting eye examinations and providing patient care. This includes performing preliminary tests, gathering patient history, and guiding patients through their clinical experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare patients for examinations by collecting pertinent information regarding their vision and medical history, explaining the examination process, and accurately documenting all necessary details in the patient's record.
  • Utilize various clinical instruments and technology to take measurements and administer tests that assess the patient's visual capabilities in preparation for the eye examination.
  • Assist patients with contact lens fitting; provide education and training on the insertion and removal of contact lenses.
  • Manage inventory of contact lenses, including ordering various types and materials.
  • Administer prescribed topical ophthalmic medications and dilation agents as directed.
  • Support the Optometrist by scribing during patient consultations and providing translation services when necessary.
  • Ensure efficient patient flow and prioritize care while maintaining effective communication with doctors, staff, and patients.
  • Assist in executing therapy exercises or procedures under the guidance of the Optometrist.
  • Contribute to office operations by answering phones, verifying insurance, checking in patients, and maintaining a clean and organized workspace.
  • Engage in special projects, cross-training opportunities, and other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Typically, candidates will possess:

  • 1-2 years of experience in a related field.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications.
  • Strong verbal communication skills to manage multiple tasks and respond to inquiries effectively.
  • Excellent written communication skills for accurate documentation of patient visits.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills to build rapport with patients.
  • Ability to ask relevant questions to assess patient needs.
  • Capability to listen and interact with patients in a fast-paced environment.

Work Environment:

The working conditions are generally favorable, with adequate lighting and temperature control, and no hazardous or unpleasant conditions present.
