Job Title: Teacher Aide

Northern Virginia Family Service (NVFS) is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teacher Aide to join our Early Childhood Education team in Arlington. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of children, implementing engaging activities, and providing exceptional support to our teachers.

Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Primary Teacher in creating a secure and enjoyable learning environment for each child.
  • Organize materials and furniture to support active and quiet playtime, and assist in modifying the classroom to meet individual children's needs.
  • Supervise children during indoor and outdoor activities, incorporating positive guidance techniques to promote social and emotional development.
  • Assist in observing and evaluating children's learning styles and behaviors, and determining their readiness for new learning opportunities.
  • Support the Teacher in completing attendance, health checks, and other administrative tasks.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with parents, providing regular feedback on children's progress and challenges.
  • May be assigned to act as a Bus Monitor, ensuring safe and timely transitions for children.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, and participate in regular supervision with the supervisor.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma; encouraged to pursue further early childhood education.
  • At least one year of experience working with children (aged 0-5) and families.
  • Oral and written fluency in English; bilingual language fluency a plus.
  • Ability to interpret documents, such as safety rules and policy and procedures manuals.
  • Attendance reliability and ability to follow Early Head Start guidelines.
  • Proficiency in basic technological tools, including laptops, email, phones, and internet.
Additional Requirements:
  • Successful completion of background checks.
  • TB testing and physical examination required upon hire and conducted yearly.
  • Reliable transportation to visit client homes and other designated community locations.
  • Ability to lift a child up to 50 lbs.
