Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Structural Engineer Diver to join our San Diego, Carlsbad, Costa Mesa, or Long Beach office and local dive team. As the successful Engineer, you will be working with a professional engineering dive team that provides consulting services to clients in the SoCal area.

Key Responsibilities
  • Participate in site investigations of waterfront infrastructure such as marine structures, marinas, ports, container terminals, water control structures, etc.
  • Assist the team in fulfilling scopes of work and submitting contracted deliverables on schedule and within budget
  • Work collaboratively with all members of the inspection teams, design teams, and other engineering disciplines
  • Analyze aged or damaged components of marine structures to assess load capacity
  • Perform inspections utilizing commercial diving methods and techniques while adhering to field operation standards and safety procedures
  • Assist in writing technical reports and manuals as needed
  • Understand and maintain proficiency with State, Federal, and local agency design standards and criteria, practices, and policies
  • Prepare plans, specifications, cost estimates, and supporting documentation
  • Assist in proposals and cost estimates
  • Perform other duties as required
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Master's degree in Structural Engineer preferred but not required
  • Professional Engineer licensure required. License in California is desired or having the ability to obtain via reciprocity within 6 months of hire
  • Certified Diver - ADCI, HSE, DCBC, IMCA, or ADAS
  • 5 to 10 years of related experience
  • Dive Supervisor certification preferred
  • NHI/NBIS bridge inspection qualifications a plus
  • Proven experience in performing above/below water engineering inspections
  • Possess a valid driver's license in good standing
  • Ability and willingness to travel as required
  • Boater Safety Card preferred
  • Possess DBIDS card or eligibility to successfully pass background check to secure Department of Defense DBIDS card and other badges required by clients
  • Possession of or ability to obtain within a couple months of hire a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC)
  • Current First Aid, CPR, AED, and Oxygen Administration certification preferred
  • Selected candidate must consent to and pass a post-off/pre-employment drug screening
Working Conditions

The incumbent works in both the office and field:

  • Office work requires ongoing design work requiring focus
  • Field work requires diving in waters and exposure to extreme elements
  • Must be able to move among a variety of simultaneous priorities
  • Some extended days, evenings, and weekend work requirements
Physical Requirements

This role requires the incumbent to be in excellent physical condition:

  • ADCI (or equivalent) diving requires specific physical conditioning and strength
  • Field work requires incumbent to carry diving and inspection equipment over unpaved, rural, and unmarked terrain
  • The incumbent must be able to lift, carry, climb, and navigate in a small boat
