Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Technologist to join our team at CHI Saint Joseph Health. As a Medical Technologist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of laboratory test results.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Direct Observation and Testing: Direct observations of routine patient test performance, including patient identification and preparation, specimen collection, handling, processing, and testing.
  2. Test Result Monitoring and Reporting: Monitoring the recording and reporting of test results, including critical results.
  3. Quality Control and Assurance: Review of intermediate test results or worksheets, quality control records, proficiency testing results, and preventive maintenance records.
  4. Instrument Maintenance and Function Checks: Direct observation of performance of instrument maintenance and function checks.
  5. Test Performance Assessment: Assessment of test performance through testing previously analyzed specimens, internal blind testing samples, or external proficiency testing samples.
  6. Problem-Solving Skills Evaluation: Evaluation of problem-solving skills.
  7. Quality Control Procedures: Performs quality control procedures to ensure accuracy of test results.
  8. Patient Sample Analysis: Analyzes patient samples according to approved standards of testing.
  9. Equipment Maintenance: Maintains equipment to ensure accurate, consistent results in the performance of tests.
  10. Teaching and Education: Provides teaching and education to clinical laboratory scientist students and other laboratory personnel.
  11. Age-Specific Care: Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
  12. Specimen Collection and Processing: Collects and processes laboratory specimens.
  13. Safety Protocols: Follows standards of safety dictated by the laboratory, the hospital, and regulatory agencies.
  14. Efficient Laboratory Operation: Contributes to the efficient operation of the laboratory.
  15. Continuing Education: Participates in continuing education programs for the upgrade of educational experience.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in medical technology or related field preferred.

• Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) required.

• 1-2 years of experience in a clinical laboratory setting preferred.
