Medical Support Specialist

UPMC Hamot's Erie Physician Network is seeking a skilled Medical Assistant to join our team of healthcare professionals. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and supporting our physicians in delivering high-quality medical services.

Responsibilities:
- Answer calls and provide pertinent information to patients, including education as directed.
- Organize patient flow and schedules to ensure efficient care.
- Accompany patients to exam/procedure rooms and assist as needed with walking, transfers, and other tasks.
- Collect patient information, take vitals, and perform screenings as per provider guidelines.
- Relay instructions to patients and families, ensuring clear communication.
- Comply with regulatory agency requirements, such as OSHA and CLIA.
- Maintain confidentiality of medical records and other sensitive data.
- Comply with all UPMC Health System policies and procedures.
- Obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and other relevant information.
- Schedule appointments and verify insurance coverage and patient demographics.
- Prepare and manage charts to ensure accurate and timely completion.
- Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and level one labs, as well as assist with clinic procedures.
- Document patient information into the medical record.
- Prepare patient rooms, set up instruments, and maintain infection control.
- Manage inventory of supplies and restock exam/procedure rooms.
- Send and receive patient medical records in accordance with HIPAA and other regulations.
- Administer injectable medication and vaccines under the direction of a physician.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, and diagnostic responsibilities
