Job Title: Respiratory Therapist Student

Job Summary:

We are seeking a Respiratory Therapist Student to join our team at Baptist Health. As a Respiratory Therapist Student, you will be responsible for providing respiratory care to patients under the supervision of a licensed respiratory therapist.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Follow department policies and procedures.
  2. Demonstrate proficiency in all equipment, including function, setup, indications of use, physiological effects on the patient, and proper maintenance procedures where applicable.
  3. Perform, assess, and instruct the effective administration of oxygen and other prescribed medications, humidification, incentive spirometry, and chest physiotherapy.
  4. Administer patient medication per the policies of AdminRx.
  5. Assess patient response to therapy and make recommendations to physicians.
  6. Report pertinent clinical patient information to preceptor, nurse, or physician.
  7. Document patient assessment, response to therapy, and pertinent clinical information on appropriate forms and records.
  8. Respond to all respiratory care pages in a timely manner.
  9. Perform effective airway management and chest compressions in cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  10. Take and record verbal orders for respiratory procedures.
  11. Assist in maintenance and operational verification procedures of all respiratory equipment.
  12. Report equipment malfunctions or needs to supervisor.
  13. Assist in Quality Improvement Activities.
  14. Comply with relevant local, state, and federal rules and regulations, laws, and requirements of accrediting bodies and other external associations.
  15. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • A. EDUCATION - High school diploma or equivalent preferred and must be actively enrolled in an AMA-approved school of Respiratory Care.
  • B. SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS - Must hold an active student "Limited Certificate" from the Kentucky Board for Respiratory Care. Must provide continuous proof of progression through the program via checklist.
  • C. Must maintain active certification in Basic Life Support.
