Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Respiratory Therapist to join our team at UofL Health. As a Respiratory Therapist, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the success of our respiratory care team.

Responsibilities
  • Administer non-medicated aerosol and humidity therapy to patients as prescribed by physicians.
  • Implement oxygen therapy protocols and administer oxygen therapy to patients as needed.
  • Administer aerosolized medication and specialty gas therapy to patients as prescribed by physicians.
  • Perform airway management procedures, including intubation and extubation, as needed.
  • Administer incentive spirometry to patients to promote lung expansion and clearance of secretions.
  • Clean and reprocess respiratory therapy equipment to ensure proper function and safety.
  • Administer bronchial hygiene and perform chest physiotherapy to patients as prescribed by physicians.
  • Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation and manual ventilation during resuscitation attempts and assist in rapid response calls as needed.
  • Provide patient, family, staff, and physician education on respiratory care and disease management.
  • Collect arterial blood samples for blood gas analysis and perform other laboratory tests as needed.
  • Operate mechanical ventilators and manage ventilator settings and weaning per protocols and provider orders.
  • Perform electrocardiography studies and place Holter and event monitors as assigned by facility leadership.
  • Assist in cardiopulmonary procedures, including cardiac arrest and resuscitation.
  • Serve as a preceptor to newly hired employees and/or respiratory therapy students as needed.
  • Serve in the charge respiratory therapist role as needed.
  • Assist in research projects as directed by departmental and facility leadership.
Qualifications
  • Associate degree in Cardiopulmonary Services or Respiratory Care from an accredited respiratory therapy educational program.
  • Bachelor's degree in Cardiopulmonary Services or Respiratory Care from an accredited respiratory therapy educational program (preferred).
  • One year of experience in respiratory therapy critical care (preferred).
  • New graduates accepted.
  • Active license as a Respiratory Care Practitioner from the Kentucky Board of Respiratory Care (KBRC).
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC). If not possessed at date of hire, must be obtained within six (6) months.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.
  • American Heart Association Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). New graduates have 6 months to obtain ACLS.
  • American Heart Association Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) required within 1 year of orienting to the Neonatal ICU (UofL only).
