Job Summary

The Director of Informatics is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing the integration and application of information technology at Long Beach Medical Center and Miller Children's & Women's Hospital. This role requires a strong vision for informatics principles and MemorialCare's strategic mission, including establishing a unique and specific vision for the Long Beach campus.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide visionary leadership and commitment to informatics principles and MemorialCare's strategic mission.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff to identify needs and implement data-driven solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations to achieve identified operational and clinical outcomes.
  • Develop strategies for the Long Beach campus that support continuous improvement of clinical workflows, decision support tools, and bridges the gap between clinical practice and IS.
  • Represent Long Beach Campus at local, state, and national levels through involvement in professional informatics associations and organizations.
  • Design and implement prioritization models for informatics-related requests.
  • Lead organizational and local teams in defining and identifying metrics necessary to measure change and promote data-driven improvement across the continuum of patient care.
  • Incorporate best practices of informatics to maximize efficiency of clinical technology systems.
  • Responsible for the development, alignment, and evaluation of standard clinical workflows within clinical technology applications.
  • Establish effective relationships with clinical improvement teams, IS, and data and analytics teams.
  • Communicate information/outcomes regarding system issues and/or patient populations to appropriate individuals or groups.
  • Responsible for communicating clinical practice information to system engineers, designers, and analysts.
  • Collaborate with medical staff, health system operational teams, and associated care process models on hospital and system-wide committees.
  • Perform needs assessment and gap analysis as needed to identify process improvement opportunities.
  • Conduct education and training to clinical informatics team and interdisciplinary teams as needed.
  • Keep abreast of technological developments in the healthcare environment to propose future projects or enhancements.
  • Create and deploy policies and practices that keep patient records and other healthcare information secure and confidential.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in informatics in a hospital-based health system required.
  • Experience Minimum 2 years' leadership preferred.
  • Experience with Epic systems preferred.

Education/Licensure/Certification:

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license to practice in the state of California required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
