Key Responsibilities:

  • Formulate and implement strategies that align HVAC and refrigeration systems with sustainability goals, including the adoption of heat pump technologies.
  • Guide and develop a team of HVAC and refrigeration specialists, promoting a culture of teamwork and continuous improvement. Responsibilities include recruitment, training, performance evaluation, and personnel recommendations.
  • Stay informed about the latest trends and advancements in HVAC and refrigeration technologies to assess their relevance to our operations.
  • Oversee the planning and execution of HVAC and refrigeration projects, ensuring alignment with efficiency targets and adherence to budgetary constraints.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable industry standards, codes, and regulations pertaining to HVAC and refrigeration systems.
  • Manage project budgets effectively, making strategic decisions to optimize resource utilization.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including sustainability teams and building managers, to promote initiatives that enhance efficiency and electrification in HVAC and refrigeration systems.
  • Utilize analytical insights to identify opportunities for improving efficiency and reducing carbon emissions within HVAC and refrigeration systems.
  • Engage with the campus building automation system to monitor equipment performance, predict maintenance needs, and manage energy consumption effectively.
  • Ensure that preventive maintenance tasks are accurately programmed and executed within the Computerized Maintenance Management System.
  • Develop and implement training programs to enhance the skills of maintenance staff and maintain positive relationships with building coordinators and university stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with project managers on construction and renovation initiatives, managing small to medium-sized projects as necessary.
  • Ensure that warranty information is properly documented and entered into the maintenance management system.
  • Perform additional duties as required to meet departmental and university objectives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, HVAC Engineering, or Refrigeration Engineering with a minimum of three years of relevant experience, or an Associate's degree with five years of experience in a supervisory capacity.
  • Alternatively, seven to ten years of experience in HVAC and refrigeration system management, particularly with industrial chiller systems.
  • Familiarity with heat pump technology and its application in commercial settings.
  • Proven project management skills with a successful track record in leading HVAC and refrigeration projects.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems and project management tools.
  • Universal Refrigerant Certification is required.
  • Knowledge of cooling tower systems and water treatment processes is preferred.

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to perform manual labor and lift heavy objects as required.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, during emergencies or critical project phases.
