Position Overview:
This role is pivotal in ensuring the secure and regulatory-compliant application of radioactive substances and radiation-emitting devices within the organization. The position involves direct collaboration with department leaders, senior management, regulatory authorities, and the Corporate Radiation Safety Officer to promote the responsible use of radioactive materials.

Work Schedule:
Monday to Friday; 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.

Key Responsibilities:
Essential Duties

  • Upholds and champions the institution's policies, procedures, mission, and commitment to excellence.
In partnership with the department director and nuclear medicine department managers:

  • Ensures that licenses for radioactive materials are current and submits necessary amendments promptly.
  • Aids medical imaging support physicists in their responsibilities related to nuclear medicine.
  • Assists in resolving issues concerning protocols, quality assurance, policies, and accreditation initiatives.
  • Monitors and assesses quality control standards.
  • Conducts audits of equipment performance records.
  • Engages in efforts toward corporate standardization whenever feasible.
  • Supports the corporate radiation safety officer in activities pertaining to nuclear medicine.
  • Executes leak tests on sealed sources.
  • Conducts area surveys to assess ambient exposure levels and potential contamination.
  • Performs audits of radiation safety program activities and documentation as mandated by regulations.
  • Reviews radioactive material possession limits to ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Evaluates the radioactive waste management program.
  • Conducts audits of required bioassays.
  • Assesses room ventilation rates.
  • Responds to incidents involving lost radioactive sources or contamination, providing expert guidance and support.

  • Maintains consistent and punctual attendance in accordance with organizational policies and applicable regulations.

  • Adheres to all organizational policies and procedures.

Qualifications:
Education/Training

  • Bachelor’s degree in Arts or Science from an accredited institution.
  • Graduate of an accredited Nuclear Medicine Technology program.
Licensure/Certification

  • Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) – certification renewed annually; OR
  • (ARRT) (N) certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Nuclear Medicine – certification renewed annually; OR certification from the National Registry of Radiation Protection Technologists (NRRPT); and

    • Valid Florida State License as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
Experience

Minimum of five (5) years of experience in Nuclear Medicine or Hospital Health Physics. Proficiency in utilizing various radiology and hospital-based computer systems is essential.
