Position Overview: The Respiratory Care Practitioner II plays a vital role in delivering respiratory care through comprehensive patient assessment, strategic planning, effective intervention, patient education, and thorough evaluation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer a variety of respiratory care procedures, including oxygen and aerosolized medication delivery, ventilator management, and bronchial hygiene therapy.
- Monitor patient responses to therapies and adjust treatment plans as necessary based on ongoing assessments.
- Oversee the respiratory care team during shifts, ensuring adequate staffing and effective patient care coverage.
- Assist physicians with procedures such as bronchoscopy and tracheostomy intubation, as well as perform endotracheal tube changes.
- Conduct therapeutic procedures to maintain patient airways, including the use of various airway devices and ensuring proper humidification.
- Evaluate and maintain mechanical ventilators, ensuring they function correctly and are appropriate for patient needs.
- Provide mentorship to new staff and students, fostering a collaborative learning environment.
- Assess patients' physical conditions through various methods, including inspection and auscultation, to inform treatment decisions.
- Educate patients and families on respiratory therapies, including the use of inhalers, incentive spirometry, and home care practices.
- Perform arterial punctures and blood gas analysis, demonstrating expertise in interpretation and monitoring.
Qualifications:
- Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Care program.
- Current state Respiratory Care License.
- National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) certification.
- Preferred: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) and Adult Critical Care Specialist (ACCS) credentials.
- Minimum of two years of experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist or five years as a Certified Respiratory Therapist.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
- Proficient in non-invasive respiratory therapy equipment and procedures.
