Job Summary

Duke Health is seeking a highly skilled Certified Medical Assistant to join our team in Durham Pediatrics. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide exceptional patient care and support to our patients and families.

Responsibilities
  • Take medical histories and record vital signs, explaining treatment procedures to patients and preparing them for examinations and procedures.
  • Assist medical and nursing staff during examinations and procedures, collect and prepare laboratory specimens, and perform basic laboratory tests in the clinic/office.
  • Dispose of contaminated supplies, process instruments, and sterilize medical instruments.
  • Telephonate prescriptions to pharmacies, prepare and administer medications as directed by physicians, and authorize drug refills as directed.
  • Perform other clinical functions as delegated and supervised by physicians.
Administrative Responsibilities
  • Greet patients, answer telephones, schedule appointments, check out patients, and refer patients to specialists.
  • Arrange for hospital admissions and laboratory services, update and file patient medical records, fill out insurance forms, handle billing and bookkeeping, and order clinical and clerical supplies and forms.
  • Perform other administrative duties as directed.
Requirements
  • Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA, or ARMA required.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Graduation from a medical assistant program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) strongly preferred.
  • High school or GED graduation required.
  • At least 1 year of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant in a clinical setting required for Level II and III.
