Position Overview:
This role involves executing a range of custodial and maintenance tasks within municipal buildings and facilities.

Supervision:
Direct oversight is provided by a Custodial Supervisor, Senior Custodian, or higher-level departmental staff.

Key Responsibilities:
The Custodian II position is characterized by responsibilities that include event setup and breakdown, custodial duties, minor repairs, and interaction with the public.

Essential Duties:
  • Prepare and arrange furniture for meetings, events, and banquets based on provided instructions.
  • Adjust furniture arrangements as required throughout the day.
  • Assist clients in addressing furniture-related inquiries or issues.
  • Assemble and install items such as bulletin boards and game tables.
  • Perform cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and polishing floors; maintaining restrooms; and managing waste disposal.
  • Conduct minor maintenance tasks related to custodial operations.
  • Utilize various cleaning tools and equipment effectively.
  • Maintain cleanliness of external walkways and entrances.
  • Secure and unlock building access points.
  • Monitor inventory levels of cleaning supplies and equipment, recommending orders as necessary.
  • Identify and report safety or sanitation concerns.
  • Other related responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications:
Knowledge:
  • Familiarity with cleaning materials, methods, tools, and equipment.
  • Understanding of custodial practices and safety protocols.
  • Proficiency in using common hand tools and cleaning equipment.
  • Awareness of cleaning agents and their applications.
  • Strong public relations skills.

Skills:
  • Ability to perform physical labor for extended periods.
  • Capability to execute routine maintenance tasks.
  • Skill in establishing effective working relationships.
  • Physical ability to lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Willingness to work in various weather conditions.
  • Flexibility to work irregular hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Proficiency in reading and writing English for job-related tasks.

Experience and Education:
A combination of education and experience that meets the required knowledge and abilities is acceptable. A typical pathway includes one year of experience in custodial and maintenance work.

Probationary Period:
New employees must complete a probationary period of twelve months at a satisfactory performance level before achieving permanent status.

Selection Process:
Candidates will be evaluated based on their application and experience. Additional assessments may be required.
