Position Overview: This role is essential in assisting healthcare professionals with patient care delivery, managing patient transport, setting up and maintaining patient environments, and performing various clerical and administrative tasks within the patient care unit.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Support physicians and healthcare providers during routine examinations and procedures, ensuring the availability of necessary equipment and supplies.

  2. Thoroughly review patient care documentation, noting any significant changes in patient conditions, and promptly report these to a registered nurse or physician.

  3. Execute a variety of clerical duties, including organizing and prioritizing tasks, welcoming and directing visitors, conducting research as requested, reviewing orders for accuracy, revising orders as needed, answering calls, transcribing physician orders, and maintaining medical records.

  4. Conduct routine quality assurance checks, safety audits, and inventory management of supplies while providing administrative support, including performance improvement audits and data entry.

  5. Assist with clinical support tasks such as maintaining cleanliness in work areas, managing office equipment, troubleshooting software and hardware issues, changing linens, checking supply levels, restocking items, transporting patients and specimens, and aiding in the orientation of new staff and students.

  6. Deliver direct personal care to patients according to established care plans, which may include bathing, dressing, feeding, and assisting with mobility.

  7. Measure and document vital signs, as well as patient height and weight. Responsibilities may also include specimen collection, skin preparations, catheter care, blood glucose monitoring, basic wound care, range of motion exercises, and postural drainage.

  8. Reinforce routine patient education provided by registered nurses or physicians and document patient comprehension of instructions. Distribute educational materials as requested by patients or healthcare providers.

Additional Information:

Education Requirements:
High School Diploma or equivalent.

Licensure/Certification Requirements:

  • Must be listed as a Nursing Assistant I by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.

Professional Experience Requirements:
A minimum of six months of clerical or customer service experience is necessary.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Proficiency in verbal and written English is essential. Ability to develop computer skills if not already competent.
