POSITION SUMMARY

The Facility Operations Attendant plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth functioning and customer satisfaction at the Unity Health and Fitness Center during designated operational hours, particularly in the late afternoons, evenings, and weekends. This position involves engaging with patrons, providing assistance, and performing various related tasks as needed.

SUPERVISION

Works under the general guidance of the Park and Recreation Manager and does not supervise other staff members.

CLASSIFICATION OVERVIEW

This role encompasses a comprehensive range of responsibilities aimed at maintaining a safe environment for both the public and staff. Duties may vary based on the assigned area and can involve interaction with other city personnel and the public.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Management reserves the right to adjust job assignments as necessary. Typical functions include:
  • Ensuring the safety of all patrons and staff within the facility.
  • Wearing designated work attire at all times.
  • Interacting with the public in a courteous manner; responding to inquiries and providing standard information.
  • Addressing accidents and incidents, completing necessary reports.
  • Delivering exceptional customer service to all visitors.
  • Resolving issues related to room and building setups and takedowns.
  • Conducting regular walkthroughs every 20-30 minutes.
  • Overseeing open gym activities.
  • Inspecting rooms, equipment, and supplies for safety hazards.
  • Maintaining cleanliness in common areas to enhance customer experience.
  • Managing spills, odors, and waste effectively.
  • Ensuring washrooms are clean, stocked, and well-maintained.
  • Clearing and treating walkways during inclement weather.
  • Securing the facility at the end of each shift, ensuring lights are off and doors are locked.
  • Assisting groups utilizing the facilities as needed; explaining or enforcing facility regulations.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge:
  • Understanding of safe work practices and methods relevant to the role.
  • Skills in providing high-quality customer service while interacting with the public, vendors, and city staff.
  • Proficiency in English grammar, spelling, and vocabulary.
  • Familiarity with effective cleaning techniques and safe use of cleaning products and equipment.
Skills:
  • Ability to follow instructions and engage with individuals tactfully.
  • Capability to interpret instructions, schedules, and emergency plans accurately.
  • Strong judgment and problem-solving skills.
  • Adherence to city policies and procedures related to job duties.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow both oral and written instructions.
  • Effective communication skills in English, both in person and through various mediums.
  • Ability to foster positive working relationships with colleagues and the public.
  • Skill in managing multiple tasks simultaneously and prioritizing effectively.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Any combination of training and experience that equips the individual with the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities is acceptable. A typical qualification path includes:
  • Minimum age of 16 years.
  • Completion of CPR/AED/First Aid training within the first six months of employment.
WORK HOURS AND COMPENSATION

This is a part-time position, compensated bi-weekly at an agreed hourly rate. The role is classified as non-exempt and typically involves working fewer than 20 hours per week, including evenings and weekends.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must have the mobility to work in various city facilities; possess the strength and stamina to perform medium physical tasks, operate hand tools, and related equipment; have the vision to read printed materials and computer screens; and the hearing and speech capabilities to communicate effectively. The role requires the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull items weighing up to 50 pounds.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

May be exposed to outdoor elements while performing tasks outside the facility. Most duties are conducted indoors, which may involve exposure to varying noise levels, temperature conditions, and potential hazards associated with chemicals and equipment.
