POSITION SUMMARY

The Facility Operations Attendant is tasked with ensuring the effective functioning and exceptional customer service for visitors at the Unity Health and Fitness Center during designated late afternoon, evening, and weekend hours. This role involves engaging with the public, providing assistance and information, and performing various related duties as necessary.

SUPERVISION

Receives general oversight from the Parks and Recreation Manager. This position does not supervise other staff members.

CLASSIFICATION DETAILS

This role encompasses a comprehensive range of responsibilities aimed at maintaining the highest safety standards for both the public and staff. Duties are typically performed in a designated area and may involve interaction with other city personnel and the public, depending on the assignment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Management retains the authority to modify, adjust, or rescind the duties associated with various positions and to make reasonable accommodations for qualified employees to fulfill essential job functions.
  • Ensure the safety of all patrons and staff within the facility.
  • Consistently wear designated work attire.
  • Engage with the public in a courteous manner; respond to inquiries and provide standard information as needed.
  • Address all accidents and incidents, completing necessary reports.
  • Deliver outstanding customer service to all visitors.
  • Resolve issues related to room and building arrangements.
  • Conduct regular facility inspections every 20-30 minutes.
  • Oversee open gym activities.
  • Examine all rooms, equipment, and supplies for safety hazards.
  • Maintain cleanliness and order in common areas to enhance customer experience.
  • Manage spills, odors, and waste effectively.
  • Ensure washrooms are consistently inspected, cleaned, and stocked.
  • Clear and treat walkways during snow and ice conditions.
  • Secure the facility at the end of each shift, ensuring all lights are off and doors are locked.
  • Assist groups utilizing the facilities as requested; may need to explain or enforce facility regulations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge Required:
  • Safe work practices and methods relevant to the position.
  • Techniques for delivering high-quality customer service while interacting with the public, vendors, contractors, and city staff.
  • Proficiency in English, including grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and punctuation.
  • Proper cleaning techniques and safe handling of cleaning supplies, disinfectants, and custodial equipment.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to follow instructions and interact tactfully with individuals.
  • Capability to interpret instructions, schedules, room setups, and emergency protocols, executing them accurately and promptly.
  • Sound judgment and problem-solving skills when required.
  • Ability to adhere to city policies and procedures related to assigned tasks.
  • Competence in understanding and following both oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in English, both in person and via telephone or written correspondence.
  • Capacity to establish and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues and the public.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritize effectively, and complete them in a timely manner.
Education and Experience:

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities is acceptable. A typical qualification pathway includes:
  • Must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Completion of CPR/AED/First Aid training within the first six months of employment.
WORKING CONDITIONS

This position is part-time and compensated bi-weekly at an agreed hourly rate. The role is classified as non-exempt and typically involves working fewer than 20 hours per week, including evenings and weekends.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must possess the mobility to work in city facilities; strength, stamina, and mobility to perform medium physical tasks; ability to read printed materials and computer screens; and effective communication skills. Positions may require bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, and climbing to perform inspections and tasks. Employees must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull items weighing up to 50 pounds.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

May be exposed to outdoor elements while performing tasks outside the facility. Most duties are conducted indoors, with potential exposure to varying noise levels, temperature controls, confined spaces, chemicals, and physical hazards.
