Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Electrical Substation Technician to join our team at the City of College Station, TX. As a key member of our Electric Department, you will be responsible for the maintenance, operation, installation, and testing of electrical, mechanical, and electronic equipment in our electrical substations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Diagnose and repair problems with substation distribution and transmission equipment, communication equipment, and protective relays.
  • Inspect, test, and calibrate substation equipment, including transformers, circuit switches, generators, and control equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and analyze system failures, insulation viability, and contact resistance.
  • Ensure safe working practices and perform all work in accordance with our established safety policies and procedures.
  • Perform substation transmission and distribution switching operations in planned and emergency situations.
  • Maintain optimal electric system operations and ensure consistent communication and coordination with coworkers and other divisions.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Three (3) years of technical training with electrical transmission and/or distribution equipment.
  • Valid Texas Driver License.
  • Basic computer application skills.
  • Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions and extreme temperatures.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree in Electrical Power Distribution.
  • Knowledge of electrical theory and electrical/electronic schematics.
  • Knowledge of industry testing standards and procedures.
