About the Role

At HDR, we are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Rail Bridge Engineer to join our team. As an employee-owner, you will play a key role in the continued growth of our freight rail program, working on critical infrastructure projects that drive the sustainable movement of goods and people.

Key Responsibilities
  • Project Leadership: Serve as Discipline or Task Lead for railroad bridge/structural engineering/design projects, and other offices to support the Freight Rail Market Sector and other market sectors as needed.
  • Client Development: Support Project Managers by leading or participating in marketing and contracting activities.
  • Project Management: Manage scope, budget, and schedule, as well as the development of design criteria, specifications, project guides, project meeting notes, and cost-estimating activities.
  • Design and Analysis: Perform railroad bridge/structural engineering/design planning, analysis, and design aspects of rail and rail-related transportation projects.
  • Quality Control: Lead and/or perform detailed QC reviews of projects.
  • Client Engagement: Support Project Managers by leading, or participating in client and stakeholder visits, site visits, field assessments, and construction inspections as needed.
  • Industry Representation: Attend industry events and represent HDR as needed.
  • Mentorship: Mentor younger staff and support technical development.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise junior staff performance of engineering tasks.
  • Industry Expertise: Work across industries with rail, industrial, terminal, utility, agency, DOT, port, transit, and other industry clients.
  • Leadership: Provide leadership across technical disciplines.
Requirements
  • Education: Master's of Science in Structural Engineering.
  • Licensure: S.E. license.
  • Professional Development: Ability to become licensed as a P.E. or P. Eng. in additional jurisdictions through the NCEES or similar.
  • Project Management Experience: Project Management experience managing projects for rail, industrial or transit clients.
  • Client Development Experience: Demonstrated client development or client management experience.
  • Construction Experience: Construction inspection or construction management experience is a plus.
  • Technical Skills: Experience in technical writing, communicating, and presenting to clients and the public is desirable.
  • Software Proficiency: Familiarity with engineering software packages such as: LARSA, LEAP Bridge Enterprise, FB-MultiPier, LPile, SAP2000, CSiBridge, ADINA, spColumn, and/or LUSAS.
  • Railroad Industry Knowledge: Experience working with AREMA's Manual for Railway Engineering and/or other railroad design guidelines, specifications, and criteria.
  • Desirable Qualities: Proficiency in railroad structural analysis programs, bridge design software, load rating and bridge rehabilitation. Desire to mentor younger staff and grow in skill set related to the railroad industry.
