With accolades for safety excellence from Specialty Trades Insurance Company and The Association of Union Constructors, Sargent Electric has grown to be a leading electrical contracting firm in Maine and Northern New England, offering a wide range of services to our clientele.

We are in search of a SAFETY COORDINATOR to join our team, based in Lewiston, ME. This role will report directly to our Vice President of EHS and will be pivotal in the development of project-specific safety plans and permits.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough site audits and assessments to ensure adherence to Federal, State, and client safety regulations.
  • Lead investigations into accidents and incidents, manage claims, and implement corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
  • Review client contracts, create tailored safety plans, participate in kickoff meetings, and assist in the resolution of action items during project closeout.
  • Facilitate orientation training for new hires, including equipment training and certifications such as FA/CPR, NFPA 70E, and CSE.
  • Maintain a schedule for testing equipment, including rubber goods, hot sticks, grounds, and macs.
  • Assist in the creation and revision of Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Site-Specific Safety Plans (SSSPs), training materials, and other safety initiatives.
  • Take on additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by Sargent Electric Management.
Essential Skills:
  • Exceptional written communication abilities and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills, capable of engaging effectively with a diverse range of individuals.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure, respond promptly to requests, and collaborate effectively as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated capacity to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Basic Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in safety within electric utility operations, environmental protection, and occupational health.
  • A four-year degree in safety management/sciences or equivalent experience, totaling 8 years in EHS with a focus on electric utility construction.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
  • Willingness to work in various weather conditions and physical capability to climb ladders and scaffolding, as well as stand for extended periods.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • CUSP - Certified Utility Safety Specialist
  • CHST - Certified Health and Safety Technician
  • CSP - Certified Safety Professional
  • Experience as an Equipment Trainer
Travel Requirements:
  • This position will primarily be based in Lewiston, Maine, with support for surrounding regions.
