About the Police Department:
The Pleasanton Police Department is devoted to safeguarding lives, preventing criminal activities, and improving the overall quality of life within our community.

Department Structure:
The department is structured into three primary divisions:
1. Operations Division: This includes patrol services, the Traffic Unit, and the Alternate Response Unit (ARU).
2. Investigations Division: This division oversees the Criminal Investigations Unit, Youth and Community Services, Personnel and Training, Special Enforcement Unit, and Community Outreach initiatives.
3. Support Services Division: This division encompasses Dispatch and Records, focusing on public records management.

The department also provides various collateral assignments such as SWAT, K-9, Crime Scene Investigation (CSI), and Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT).

Key Responsibilities:
- Respond promptly to and thoroughly investigate criminal incidents.
- Conduct crime scene investigations, including evidence collection and preservation.
- Issue warnings or citations for traffic violations as necessary.
- Patrol assigned areas to deter criminal activity and ensure public safety.
- Maintain order during public events and conflict situations.
- Engage in surveillance to gather pertinent information and enforce laws.
- Prepare and present case evidence in court.
- Provide training and evaluation for new police recruits.
- Perform administrative tasks to support efficient department operations.

Minimum Qualifications:
- A high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent is required.
- Prior law enforcement experience and some college coursework in criminology or related fields are preferred.
- Candidates must be at least 21 years old at the time of appointment.
- A Basic Certificate from P.O.S.T. is required upon appointment.
- Vision must be correctable to 20/30 or better, with normal color vision and no significant hearing loss.
- A valid Class C California driver's license and proof of auto liability insurance are mandatory.
- Candidates must successfully complete a comprehensive background investigation, drug screening, medical, psychological, and polygraph examinations.
