The Process Engineer will focus on the implementation, development, and enhancement of production techniques within Tesla's manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities- Support the production line by continuously refining manufacturing process metrics such as TAU and OEE across various high-volume manufacturing lines.
- Collaborate with equipment and controls engineers, maintenance teams, and quality assurance to troubleshoot issues, enhance manufacturability, and execute equipment upgrades.
- Drive cost reduction initiatives and yield improvements for existing products.
- Work alongside quality and design teams to analyze data and establish suitable limits and variables for process or material specifications.
Develop a comprehensive understanding of manufacturing processes through detailed data analysis and product knowledge. Responsibilities include:
- Designing and modifying line layouts to optimize material flow and ergonomics, leveraging Lean Manufacturing principles.
- Facilitating the transition of products from concept to pilot production and scaling to mass manufacturing.
- Analyzing and refining production processes to ensure safety and maximize Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) while achieving top-tier quality standards.
Diagnose and address issues encountered during the manufacturing process, employing structured problem-solving methodologies such as DMAIC, Ishikawa, and the Five Whys. Responsibilities include:
- Utilizing data-driven insights to inform operational and financial decisions, integrating factory data systems and employing software tools like MySQL, JMP, and Tableau.
- Monitoring and minimizing process variation through Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA).
- Conducting audits of manufacturing processes to ensure compliance with product specifications and standards.
Participate in the creation and upkeep of FMEAs and Control Plans, as well as:
- Analyzing, developing, and implementing Engineering Change Orders.
- Creating and maintaining Manufacturing Instructions and associated processes.
- Training sustaining technicians and assisting in operator training as necessary.
Oversee the activities of process sustaining technicians to ensure effective day-to-day production line coverage, including:
- Developing and documenting rework procedures as needed.
- Providing support for continuous production operations.
Candidates should possess a BS Degree in process/chemical engineering, manufacturing/industrial engineering, computer/electrical engineering, mathematics, physical science, or a related STEM field. Additional qualifications include:
- Experience in process development and improvement.
- A proven track record of enhancing Overall Equipment Effectiveness.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to conduct data-driven root cause analyses.
- Proficiency in statistical analysis for decision-making, including DOE and capability studies.
- A passion for creating innovative products and ensuring exceptional quality and reliability.
