Perioperative Services deliver essential care and support for surgical, gastroenterology, cardiac, and pain management patients, ensuring comprehensive care for both adult and pediatric populations throughout their perioperative journey.

Role Purpose

The RN First Assistant plays a crucial role in the operating room, assisting surgeons during procedures and providing direct patient care. This position requires collaboration with the surgical team and effective communication with the patient-designated support person and other healthcare providers to ensure optimal care planning.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver intraoperative patient care as the first assistant to the surgeon(s), performing focused nursing assessments pre-operatively and analyzing data to establish nursing diagnoses.
  • Contribute to the surgical team's efficiency, considering safety, effectiveness, and cost in planning and delivering patient care.
  • Monitor patient responses and adjust care plans as necessary, administering medications in accordance with established nursing practices.
  • Engage in professional development and lifelong learning, seeking opportunities to enhance practice and contribute to the growth of peers.
  • Utilize knowledge and skills to meet patient and family needs, integrating research findings into practice and advocating for perioperative health safety.
  • This position is deemed safety-sensitive, requiring constant alertness and safe operational practices.
