Job Description:
Under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), you will assist in delivering patient care. This includes providing personal assistance such as feeding, bathing, dressing, grooming, moving, and transporting patients, as well as changing linens. You will also collect and document vital signs and other patient observations.

Principal Responsibilities:
  • Deliver personal care/interventions as assigned.
  • Execute interventions in accordance with established critical elements of each procedure.
  • Respond promptly to patient call lights for both assigned and other patients.
  • Distribute and set up water, snacks, and patient trays, assisting patients as needed.
  • Support patients with grooming and hygiene needs, maintaining skin integrity and personal comfort.
  • Assist with ambulation, transfer, positioning, and range of motion (ROM) as per activity orders and patient needs.
  • Implement fall prevention strategies as outlined in the care plan.
  • Collect and preserve specimens as required.
  • Support the RN with admission, transfer, discharge, and post-mortem care.
  • May transport medications (excluding controlled substances) within the facility.
  • Observe, collect, and document health status data as assigned.
  • Perform measurements according to critical elements of policy/procedures, including temperatures, radial pulses, blood pressures, respirations, weights, and intake/output.
  • Immediately report to the RN any observations or health status data that deviate from normal limits or show significant changes.
  • Document according to established guidelines.
  • Contribute to maintaining a safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Ensure safety during transfers, lifts, and transports by utilizing proper equipment and body mechanics.
  • Report environmental hazards or equipment malfunctions to the supervisor.
  • Utilize equipment in accordance with policies, procedures, and manufacturer guidelines.
  • May handle hazardous waste (identifying, segregating, and disposing of hazardous waste; ensuring container integrity; knowing emergency response procedures for spills, fires, and evacuations).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
  • Must meet one of the following criteria:
  • 18 years of age OR: 17 years of age with high school diploma or GED
  • Must meet one of the following criteria:
  • Successful completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program OR:
  • Completion of one semester of clinical rotations within an accredited nursing program OR:
  • Completion of the Allina Health Nursing Assistant Academy Program OR:
  • Previous direct patient care experience

Licenses/Certifications:
  • Must meet one of the following requirements:
  • Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association OR:
  • Current BLS certification from the American Red Cross OR:
  • Allina in-house BLS training within 30 days of hire

Physical Demands:
