Job Summary
The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled AML Mapping Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for administering the approved statewide Abandoned Mine Land Program.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct AML inventory fieldwork, GIS analysis, mapping, and other administrative functions that support project development and management.
- Apply spatial database skills and engineering principles to ensure accurate and efficient data collection and analysis.
- Work independently and as a team member, paying close attention to detail and completing assignments within established timeframes.
- Operate 4-wheel drive vehicles and perform basic maintenance in accordance with agency guidelines and procedures.
- Collaborate with colleagues to achieve program goals and objectives.
Requirements
- Knowledge of scientific and engineering principles related to the duties of this position.
- Considerable knowledge of computer operations, spatial database design and operation, computer-aided design (CAD), Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Global Positioning Systems (GPS), remote sensing technologies, and engineering principles and practices utilized by the Abandoned Mine Land (AML) staff.
- Demonstrated ability to apply spatial database skills and engineering principles.
- Skills in use of engineering and scientific equipment, video and photographic equipment, personal computer, and computer systems.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a team member, pay attention to detail, and complete assignments within established timeframes.
- Ability to work in the field, navigate over rough terrain, and carry up to 30 pounds of equipment.
- Valid driver's license with a good driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in spatial database design and maintenance, and engineering principles, preferably in the mineral extraction industry.
- Registration or certification is desirable.
