Objective and Responsibilities

The Diocese of Phoenix seeks a dedicated professional to assist in the strategic oversight and management of its properties and facilities. This role is essential in ensuring the effective construction and renovation of diocesan, parish, and school buildings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate new construction and significant renovations as directed by the Director of Construction.
  • Manage all aspects of construction oversight for assigned projects, including:
    • Securing necessary diocesan approvals throughout the proposal, design, and construction phases.
    • Collaborating with the Diocesan Finance Department to assess project funding sources and allocations.
    • Overseeing budget management, payment requests, contract administration, site inspections, and warranty matters.
    • Ensuring compliance with legal and safety standards in conjunction with the Assistant Construction Project Coordinator.
    • Confirming the selection of architects, engineers, specialty consultants, and contractors that meet diocesan standards.
    • Conducting site visits and preparing detailed reports on major construction initiatives.
    • Reviewing and providing feedback on plans submitted for the Diocesan Building Commission.
    • Preparing projects for presentation to the Diocesan Building Commission.
    • Collaborating with the design team to ensure adherence to guidelines set by the Office of Worship and Liturgy.
    • Performing additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team and foster positive relationships with diocesan and parish personnel.
  • Proficient in evaluating, negotiating, and executing design, service, and construction contracts.
  • Strong understanding of construction project management, planning, and supervision.
  • Commitment to staying updated on construction methodologies, building types, and renovation practices.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; proficiency in Spanish is advantageous.
  • Ability to engage with a diverse, multicultural community.
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills, aligned with Catholic teachings and traditions.
  • Capability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines concurrently.
  • Familiarity with relevant computer applications for all job functions.
  • Ability to earn the professional confidence of others and encourage collaboration.
  • Capacity to handle multiple complex tasks/projects while maintaining composure under pressure.
  • Demonstrated integrity and professionalism in all interactions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
  • Preferred licensure in the respective field.
  • A minimum of five years of experience in managing multiple construction projects.
  • Active practicing Roman Catholic in full communion with the Church.
  • Ability to articulate a clear understanding of the Catholic faith and serve as a committed witness to its mission.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license, with a willingness to travel frequently for site visits.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and maintain confidentiality in handling diocesan matters.

Work Environment

  • This position operates primarily in a professional office setting.
  • Standard office equipment, including computers and phones, will be utilized regularly.
  • Frequent field visits to various properties will be necessary.
  • Occasional evening or weekend work may be required.
  • Adherence to diocesan dress codes and conduct standards is expected.
  • Use of a personal vehicle for travel to various locations is required.

Physical Requirements

  • This role involves site inspections, including walking on construction sites and climbing structures.
