Major Duties and Responsibilities

This role involves monitoring, enforcing, and educating the community about Waste and Recycling Regulations.
  • Conducts patrols throughout the county to identify violations related to solid waste, recycling, yard waste, evictions, and littering.
  • Inspects collection route areas for non-compliance with the local Solid Waste Regulations.
  • Addresses complaints and inquiries regarding business licenses related to waste collection.
  • Provides testimony in court regarding issued citations and sends notifications to property owners via certified mail.
  • Attends court sessions for citations.
  • Clarifies laws, regulations, and other concerns to the public, various departments, and elected officials.
  • Performs administrative tasks, including the preparation of weekly reports.
  • Researches property ownership through the local tax office.
  • Responds to daily requests and concerns from the Citizens Services Center.
  • Contacts for missed pickups associated with code violations, evictions, yard waste, and litter.
  • Undertakes other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Understanding of safety protocols and regulations.
  • Familiarity with communication devices such as phones and radios.
  • Awareness of municipal policies, ordinances, and state and federal laws regarding waste collection and disposal.
  • Ability to issue citations for violations of municipal codes.
  • Knowledge of timekeeping practices for staff and equipment operators.
  • Competence in report preparation, filing, and records management.
  • Understanding of regulations governing the supervision of inmates and duties of Correctional Detail Officers.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills for interaction with citizens, colleagues, and management.
  • Proficiency in map reading and interpretation.
  • Effective time management skills.
  • Problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Familiarity with standard business operations and software applications such as OUTLOOK, EXCEL, and WORD.
  • Capability to develop and implement workplace policies and procedures.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Skill in designing efficient route plans.
  • Ability to adapt positively to sudden changes.
  • Capacity to navigate collection routes effectively.

Minimum Educational and Training Requirements

Typically requires specialized training in the field, along with basic skills associated with a high school education. Relevant experience is needed to grasp the fundamental principles related to the major duties of the position, often gained through an apprenticeship or similar role for one to two years. This position necessitates the employee to be sworn in by the local police department and to possess or be able to obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia.
Physical Requirements

The work is generally performed in an office or outdoor setting, with potential exposure to noise, dust, and various environmental conditions. The employee may need to lift light to heavy objects and utilize computer equipment and software. The following physical abilities are required:
